Definitions given by The Oxford Dictionary of Current
English to the word "Corps" include: a body of troops
with special duties and a body of people engaged in
a special activity.
With reference to
The Salvation Army, the idea of a body of troops with
special duties certainly holds true as our ranks include
those who identify themselves as Christian Soldiers
who, along with all Christian members, engage the special
duties related to spiritual warfare (in keeping with
the Biblical imagery of the ongoing battle between good
and evil). Each Salvation Army Corps is assigned to
give expression to this engagement in their particular
geographic area. As part of the Salvation Army Ontario
Central Division (Canada & Bermuda Territory), our
building is located in northern Etobicoke (northwest Toronto)
- but our people come from all over the Greater Toronto
area and vicinity.
We are also a body
of people engaged in special activity, a very special
activity - that of worshipping God. We believe that
preparation for, and deployment in |
|
spiritual warfare, is best achieved through
worshipping God. Coupled with regular exploration of
Christian doctrine and teaching through activities and/or
events that may include biblical studies, music (in
keeping with the Salvation Army's traditional Brass
Band & Songster expressions along with other more
contemporary genres), social interaction through special
interest groups for young and old (both in our corps
and our neighbourhood) and community and family assistance
services - all work together to help us accomplish the
expressed purposed of the Salvation Army as an international
branch of the evangelical Church, namely that of - saving
souls, growing saints and ministering to suffering humanity.
We invite you to have
a look around and if you ever have opportunity to actually
pay us a visit in person, please do so. We will be happy
to see you.
God bless,
Majors Bob and Sophie Gilbert |
